The reclamation of the coastal strip between the Isonzo and the Timavo, which was already being imagined before the Great War, was carried out after the war and represented an important intervention for the economic growth of the region. In particular, in 1925 an elegant complex was built which still includes the building with the dewatering plant, the electrical transformer cabin and the caretaker’s house.
This plant, which has been in operation since the 1930s, is central to the reclamation complex (3,400 hectares in the municipalities of Staranzano, Monfalcone, San Canzian d’Isonzo and Turriaco with a network of 54 kilometres of canals). The pumps make it possible to dispose of more than 6000 litres of water per second.
