Established in 1996, the Regional Natural Reserve of the Mouth of the Isonzo is located in the eastern part of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region along the last stretch of the river of the same name. It is spread over an area that largely falls within the municipality of Staranzano, as well as those of San Canzian d’Isonzo, Fiumicello and Grado. It covers an area of 2,338 hectares, 1,154 of which are in marine areas. The symbol of the Reserve is the Eurasian curlew.
